Started third and final term my god 2011 is going to end soon . I really am going to miss all my new friends here well not new anymore la ahahha my college mates . HOHO Its gonna be june soon people . Two more months and i can go to clubs and buy alcohol muhahaha . I will be finishing this course soon . Wow cant believe i am starting my second term already . It seem like yesterday when i left london and now i am back here again . London weather is so different now, its sunny for a change and the temps just nice. Spring is here and the tree's are flowering . WOW I HAVEN'T BEEN HERE IN A LONGGGGGGGGGG TIME AHAHAHA . My last post was in January . Well for starters my first term is going to end soon and i am going back to Malaysia in 2 weeks ......... well somewhere around that time . Anyway my first three months in London have been very interesting . Lets see i visited the London eye but sadly didn't get on it. It was valentines day the day me and my college mates went there . Oh on valentines day my friend LOST HER FIRST KISS BY ACCIDENT hahaha can you believe that poor girl ..... but its kinda funny how she lost it given the circumstance . We went to Watch no string attached last month i think it was in blue water rite outside London district the shopping centre was effing huge and i mean huge as big as a stadium may be bigger i dont know and you know what the best part was MY FRIENDS AND I COULD NOT BUY ANYTHING CAUSE WE MADE A VOW NOT TO SPEND THAT DAY . The world cup is comin up so i thought to put some fun facts about football

-There are 19 yard lines that divide the field into five-yard segments.

The enemy of our enemy may be our new partner in stopping a global health crisis.
With World Malaria Day (April 25) around the corner, new discoveries suggest our greatest allies in the fight against malaria may be the mosquitoes themselves.

Although saddled with a lousy public image, mosquitoes have immune systems that actually kill 80 to 90 percent of the malaria parasites that enter the insect's bodies, a new study says.
The discovery is part of an international effort to create a new generation of malaria treatments.
Genetically modified, malaria-fighting mosquitoes or even antibodies injected into humans and "fed" back to mosquitoes could someday be more effective at slowing the disease than today's simple mosquito nets, researchers say.

Triple Threat to Malaria
Malaria-parasite populations are lower when the parasites are inside mosquitoes, so some experts think it may be more effective to attack malaria inside the insects—before it enters human hosts.
Understanding how the mosquito immune system fends off malaria is an important part of bringing such a plan to fruition.
Now researchers say they've worked out the mechanism that drives one of the mosquitoes' defenses.
Three proteins in mosquito blood form a complex that "binds to a malaria parasite and punches holes through its membrane," destroying the layer that protects the parasite and holds all its important parts together, said Imperial College London biologist George Christophides, who co-authored the report, published in the April 10 issue of the journal Science.
Previously researchers had identified the three proteins and noticed that one of them seemed similar to microbe-killing proteins in other animals and in humans

How It Might Work
A mosquito-up approach to malaria control is feasible in the long term, researchers say. There are a couple of ways it could work.
In one scenario, scientists could create genetically modified mosquitoes, granting their immune systems pumped-up malaria-killing abilities.
The key would be to find a genetic drive mechanism—some factor that would give the new, malaria-fighting genes a selective advantage and help them spread quickly through wild mosquito populations via breeding, said Gregory Lanzaro, director of the Vector Genetics Lab at the University of California, Davis.
No one has figured this out for mosquitoes yet. But the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is already testing a similar concept in blood-sucking assassin bugs as a way to stop the spread of deadly, difficult-to-cure Chagas disease, Lanzaro said.
The other option would be to develop antibodies that can fight the parasites' early, mosquito-dwelling forms—and "feed" the antibodies to the insects via human blood.
Mosquito immune systems don't produce antibodies on their own. And by the time the parasites reach humans, they have matured and found ways to hide out from human antibodies, said Marcelo Jacobs-Lorena, professor of molecular microbiology and immunology at the Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute in Baltimore.
But if we vaccinate humans with antibodies that target mosquito-stage malaria, those antibodies could be passed on to the mosquitoes when they feed on treated human blood, Jacobs-Lorena said.
Combined with a second, protective vaccine, this could be a real possibility, he said.
"There's a partially effective vaccine that protects humans that's being tested," Jacobs-Lorena said. "Neither it, nor the transmission-blocking vaccine would be 100 percent effective, but the combination may work."

Liposuction Fat Turned Into Stem Cells

Using leftovers from liposuction patients, scientists have turned human fat into stem cells, a new study says.

The new method is much more efficient than a previous practice that used skin cells, researchers say.

The discovery may also help avoid the controversy spawned by the use of stem cells from human embryos. (See stem cell research pictures.)
Human fat is "an abundant natural resource and a renewable one," said Stanford University plastic surgeon Michael Longaker, whose liposuction patients donated the fat for the study.
Longaker envisions a future in which doctors will be able to use fat from a patient to grow, in a lab, new tissues and organs for that patient.
The opportunity wouldn't be limited to the obese.
"Even if you're in great shape, there is still enough fat to be harvested from the vast majority of patients," added Longaker, who co-authored the study.
From Fat to Stem Cells to New Organs?
The reprogrammed cells, called induced pluripotent stem cells, or iPS cells, are capable of turning into most types of cells in the body.
Scientists are keen to obtain these cells to study disease and, one day, use them to grow new tissue and replacement organs.
Previously, researchers had shown that they could derive this type of stem cell from ordinary skin cells.
But the fat technique is about twice as fast and 20 times more efficient, said Joseph Wu, the study's senior author. ite interesting"We can get iPS-like colonies, basically, in about 16 days, compared to 28 days to 32 days using [skin]," said Wu, a Stanford stem cell expert. "And if you count the number of colonies in [skin] versus fat ... we get about 20 times more the number of iPS colonies."
The research appears online today in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Reprogramming Cells
To create the stem cells, the scientists injected Trojan horse-like viruses into smooth muscle cells found in fat that surrounds blood vessels. Once inside, the viruses introduced genes that reprogrammed the cells, spurring them to grow into new forms.
Previously, this process had required growing the stem cells in a culture dish with nutrients from mouse cells. This had raised alarms about the potential for contamination from mouse proteins—a potential obstacle to government approval, Longaker, the plastic surgeon, said.
That the new method works at all is "somewhat surprising" and remains something of a mystery, Longaker said.
Sidestepping Stem Cell Controversy
The fat and skin methods allow researchers to sidestep the ethical controversy over the use of embryonic stem cells from cell lines originally harvested from unused human embryos from in vitro fertilization clinics.
In addition, Longaker noted, tissue or organs grown from a patient's own stem cells should be less likely to be rejected by the body.
The speediness of the fat method, in particular, could be lifesaving, he added.
For example, if a surgeon wanted to implant new heart tissue—derived from a heart attack victim's own fat—into a patient, the doctor might have only a short time before scar tissue would compromise the operation.
If he or she were able to generate the tissue within a few weeks, Longaker said, that "would be a big deal."

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as 'Euro-English'. In the first year, 's' will replace the soft 'c'. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard 'c' will be dropped in favour of 'k'. This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome 'ph' will be replaced with 'f'. This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

Today's lesson was about nature and how people effect it and what must people do to protect and repair it . Our moral teacher Mr Lim told us an interesting story he said that when he was teaching in ..... some other place (cant remember) he had to go by a route each day one day there was an accident so the people of that place moved the car to the side of the road and day by day the parts of the car vanished (taken by people to sell) first the tires than the doors than the engine and so on after a week or so he said that all that was left were the seat covers(as it had no resell value ) and it was folded nicely under a tree he jokingly added that this show that the people there had a very high understanding of recycling .

BIOLOGY

We went to the lab today yay ^.^ we did a confirmation that saliva or amylase enzymes digest starch so we had to cut one piece of bread to test and another piece to ......... PUT IN OUR MOUTHS AND CHEW FOR 10 MINUTES so the team i am in are all EVIL they purposely tried to make me eat it with a vote (wait chew it not eat ) so i knew what they wanted to do ahhh well i just volunteered i had to chew it for 10 minutes it got all watery and disgusting ..... i took vincent pee (god bro) badge (he didint knw) and it accidentaly got him scolded by the prefect master haiz SORRY PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE FORGIVE ME

P.E

P.E class was canceled today so we sat in the classroom chatting and having fun nothin much happen after that

MATHEMATICS

Mr Cheng came in a bit late today (or maybe its because we didnt go to P.E ) he taught us about maths duh (one of the subjects i hate the most) todays chapter was circles everyone in class was so rajin in doing work (ya rite ,well maybe a few like sophie who lovesssss maths) since it was quite noisy mr cheng wrote this on the board [SILENCE IS GOLD] and said if the person who is noisy and gets caught has to write it 2000 times well one person got caught and that was tze ping he said he wasnt going to write it anyway so who cares

PHYSICS

We went to the lab today with did
THE VOLUME OF WATER AFFECTS THE RISE IN TEMPERATURE OF WATER
Mr cham our physics teacher is a very quirky fellow he likes to say ah and ahhhhhhhhs every time he finishes a sentence so we always imitate him since he said that in order to do this experiment accurately we must switch off the fans and air con (yes my schools rooms are all airconize)
so it felt like a sauna

RECESS

Boring . The food at my cafeteria is good but after eating it for 4 years it gets boring so now i just dont eat my family says i have slimmed down hahahaha YAY !!!

Second half of PHYSICS

We continued to bake as we did our experiment i taught sophie punched kim haha but she didnt
(she should) i told sophie not to sing at joys sweet 16 ball as some people told me they will embaress her on stage haizzzzz she got sad and angry and started scolding me ahhh well ....

CHINESE

Free time as i like to call it had nothing to do today so i sat there talking and talking sophie and kim started to sing nursery rhymes and stuff . Hmmm nothing much happened after that

HOW

I knw it isnt something to read about but i am getting started so here goes

Well most of my friends blog (they are quite accomplished as a matter of fact) so that was how i was inspired. Some of you may knw Sophie (god sis) Kimberly Tan my other (god sis) Beven my always helpful friend, besides this i recently found that i love to write about day to day activities inspired by my english teacher Ms SO who asked us to write a
journal. so thats basically how i was inspired .
WHY

Since apparently i have nothing much to do and being an only child so it gets boring round here anyway hmmm thats basically it for the why ......

i think i should really get to the day to day activities huh haha well thats it for now ciao
